The Nintendo 64 (abbreviated as N64 and formerly known by its codename Project Reality) is Nintendo's 64-bit home game console for the fifth generation consoles, putting it at odds primarily with the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, but also with the . It succeeded the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and was ultimately succeeded itself by the Nintendo GameCube. It launched on June 23, 1996 in Japan; September 26, 1996 for limited release and officially on September 29, 1996 in North America; and on March 1, 1997 in Europe and Australia.

In 2015, IGN named it the ninth-greatest video game console of all time.
